Thermostat Heating Controls

The thermostat heating controls featured in this section offer similar functions to the smart thermostat heating controls, however these can only be manually controlled from the property in which they’re installed. There are multiple options and configurations that can be bespoke to your home, starting from a single thermostatic heating control (TRV valve) to a multi-zone (room) set up with a multiple TRV’s and a programmer. To understand a little more we have explained the basic components below.

What’s a TRV?:

TRVs sense the air temperature around them and regulate the flow of water through the radiator which they are fitted to. A TRV can be set at a level that gives you the room temperature you want. This allows you to heat the rooms you want heated and control the room temperature of the rooms that you don’t use. This could save you money by reducing your energy bills.

A way to look at it is that you wouldn’t have the lights on in every room, so why do you need to heat every room. When your home needs heat and you turn your heating up, your boiler then kicks in and heats up the house. If the boiler is required to heat the entire house then the boiler will be working at it’s maximum. However, having thermostat heating controls ensures that when you require heat, you can simply heat up the room that you are in.

What is a programmer?

The system is then controlled using a programmer control to instruct the boiler when to come on throughout the day. Depending on the system you can bespoke a system to control zones within the house to ensure that you only heat the rooms that you require heat in. This will help reduce energy bills as you’ll only use the energy required opposed to heating rooms that aren’t in use.

So what’s a Smart Control then?

Smart Controls are an excellent choice for landlords, those looking after second homes or holiday homes, are caring for an elderly relative or want to have the ultimate control over heating the heating of a home remotely -ie: via phone, tablet or PC.  Smart controls are also very useful if you forget to turn the heating off when you go away or if you are returning home and want to walk into a nice cozy house.

Your Boiler

All of the above will then speak to your boiler and your boiler will react to your instruction.

DT92E Wireless Digital Thermostat

DT92E Honeywell

The DT92E wireless digital room thermostat has been designed to provide automatic temperature control of gas or oil fired boiler systems, underfloor heating, electric heating and zoning systems.

The DT92E has an ECO button energy saving feature which gives timed setback or boosts temperatures to reduce energy demand. This is a TPI (Time Proportional & Integral) control product, which make boilers operate more efficiently and provides close, accurate control. This is continually improved by a self learning adaptive capability. The ‘OFF’ setting can be used for frost or hypothermia protection, assuming the system time control is also switched on.

‘Installer Mode’ allows control to be matched to the system and user requirements, adapting minimum on or off times, set point controls etc. The volt free connections are ideal for use with combination boilers or heating zones.

Features

  • Energy saving TPI control
  • ECO button for energy saving mode
  • 30 metres wireless range
  • Two way wireless communications
  • Signal strength indicator
  • Simple user operation
  • 5 to 35°C set point range
  • ‘OFF’ setting with adjustable OFF setpoint
  • Mains or low voltage switching
  • Two wire connection

Installation

The installation of a thermostatic valve is not a complex operation as modern valves are designed to replace old valves as a direct replacement. In some cases there maybe requirements to alter pipe work, plus the system will need to be isolated and drained down before any work is undertaken. It would take a qualified plumber approximately half a day to install a basic system of 4 valves and a programmable control.
